We have all heard the statistic that half of all marriages fail. But did
you know that the average marriage lasts only five years? When you take into
account the ones that last a lifetime, you can conclude that many barely make it
past the honeymoon!
A current trend is to use the Internet to find a perfect match for the trip to
the altar. Many hundreds of web sites promise to find you a good match.
With all the thousands of profiles that they have, you would think your soul mate
might be there. Why isn't this working?
Maybe because most people who subscribe to these sites are impatient and haven't
thought about what would constitute a perfect Match for them? They simply
shuffle through the deck of faces and pick the ones that look good! They
get a date, fall for the person and get dumped. Why, because the really
good looking ones all have so many suitors that they are on a "dating binge" and
their ego grows with each new date that they know they will dump.
I call these people "predators of emotional energy". They are takers, not
givers. And "Why not?" they think. "Everybody loves me! I am
the greatest gift to the opposite sex anyone has ever beheld!"
What rubbish! But people who use such "dating" sites are as doomed to
this experience as those who go to the local clubs and bars to get "picked up".
Not all web sites are just out to take your money. Some are actually
finding scientific ways to Match people for successful, long-term relationships.
Often they are spurned because they take a longer time to find a true
Match. Impatience!
Gee, didn't Mum warn us to "Look before you leap!" and "Haste makes waste."
Yet we are vulnerable and we want what we want and we want it NOW! So we
pay the site that gives us what we want and not what we need. When our ego
has been sufficiently trashed by subsequent dumping after dumping, we quit
altogether.
If we are lucky, we find a site that really cares if the members will find
happiness with someone they recommend. They do exist, Person2Know is
such a site!
